The University of Regina Rams beat the University of Saskatchewan Huskies for the first time since 2017.
In a game heard live on 620 CKRM from Mosaic Stadium, Rams' quarterback Noah Pelletier set a single-game program record by completing 83.9 percent of his passes (26-of-31) to lead Regina to a win over the Huskies in dramatic fashion 33-28.
Stepping in for an injured Owen Sieben, Pelletier completed his first eight passes en route to a 359-yard passing performance, tossing three touchdowns while running for another without any interceptions.
Pelletier breaks the previous single-game completion percentage record which was 78.8 percent set by Noah Picton in 2015. It's the first 300-yard passing performance by a Rams QB since Josh Donnelly in 2021.
Regina receiver DeSean Mimbs caught nine passes for a single-game, career-high 135 yards with one touchdown. Renzel Arinaza hauled in seven balls for 91 yards and the game-winning touchdown, the first TD in his Canada West career. Nicholas Sirleaf had three receptions for 62 yards and one major.
The Rams built up an impressive 22-7 second quarter lead before giving up three straight touchdowns the other way to fall behind before half-time. It wasn't until the fourth quarter that Regina came roaring back with 10 unanswered points to secure the victory.
Regina's pass rush sacked Huskies quarterback Anton Amundrud four times, Tarick Polius posted 1.5 sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss while Michael Jourdan nabbed an interception to help the Rams snap an eight-game-losing steak to the U of S.
Regina head coach Mark McConkey told his players before the game it was time to: 'Turn the tide.'
After the win, amid a jubilant on-field celebration McConkey said: 'What'd I say before the game? Turn the f***ing tide.' That drew raucous cheers from his players.
The Rams improve to 2-0 and share top spot in the Canada West football standings, tied with the Manitoba Bisons. Next up, Regina hosts the 0-2 University of British Columbia Thunderbirds at Mosaic Stadium on Saturday, September 14 at 2 p.m.
