Muenster was the scene of much hitting, bumping and spiking over the weekend as the school hosted the 2011 2A boys' Provincial Volleyball tournament.
Ten of the top 2A volleyball teams from across the province - Waldheim, Pierceland, Maymont, Cupar, Cabri, Paradise Hill, Leader, Hepburn, Arcola and Muenster descended on the gyms of Muenster School and St. Peter's College on November 25-26 to play for the provincial title.
The host Muenster Cougars senior boys' volleyball team faced Paradise Hill in the first matchup of the tournament at St. Peter's College on November 25.
The gym was packed for the games, which went back and forth between the two teams. Both teams played well at the net. Muenster came out to an early lead, but Paradise Hill wore that away and eventually won 25-22.
The second game was dominated by Paradise Hill, who won 25-12.
Muenster then played Arcola in their second game of the round-robin at 3:15. Arcola took control of their sets against Muenster quickly and won both 25-16 and 25-9.
Muenster also lost their last match of the day against a powerful Leader team, two sets to none.
Muenster did finish the round-robin with a win, however, over the Hepburn Hawks on November 26.
The Cougars won their first set 25-15, but fell to Hawks in the second, 25-20.
However, the Cougars came back, went on a huge run, and won the third set 25-12.
With this win, Muenster made the playoffs, and played the Cabri Cougars on November 26.
In the first set, Muenster came out hammering the ball, however Cabri's skill and leadership showed. They capatilized on some mistakes from Muenster and won the first set 25-15.
In the second set, Cabri got off to a quick start, and played well throughout. Muenster didn't give up, and had a late run, but it was too little, too late, and they lost 25-23, ending their provincial run.
Cabri went on to play Waldheim in the final. Waldheim won the first set 29-17, and Cabri won the second. However, Waldheim claimed the third and final set 25-18, and with it, the title of provincial champions.
