MELFORT — The Melfort Mustangs have acquired two new players from the B.C. Hockey League.

Curtis Hammond, a 2001-born forward from Fort St. John, B.C, was acquired from the Coquitlam Express. He has played the past two seasons in the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

“Curtis is a player that has been on our radar,” said Trevor Blevins, the Mustangs’ head coach.” He brings excellent speed to our forward group. Curtis can play in all situations and he will be expected to step in and play a big role in our offence.”

Hammond spent the 2019-20 season with the Bonnyville Pontiacs, where he scored four goals and added 11 assists for 15 points in 36 games. In 2020-21, Hammond played for the Grand Prairie Storm and had a goal and an assist in 11 games.

The 2002-born Hayden Tuba, from Steveston, B.C., was acquired from the Powell River Kings.

The six-foot-two, 185 pound defenceman played the 2020-21 season with the Surrey Eagles, playing in 13 games. He tallied two assists and added 10 penalty minutes. Between 2018 and 2020, Tuba also played as an affiliate with the Coquitlam Express, notching one assist in five total games.

“Hayden will be a great addition to our defence,” Blevins said. “He brings size, strength, compete, and skill. We are excited to see what he can do as a Mustang.”

The two players are being exchanged for player development fees.
