Past and present Battlefords North Stars hockey players dusted off their golf clubs and hit the links Saturday for the Annual North Stars Classic at the North Battleford Golf and Country Club.

A good turnout of 105 golfers took to the course after registrations were coming in slowly during the weeks leading up to the event. In the end, the hockey club was happy with the turnout and the beautiful weather they had for the day and steak supper, which followed. Everyone involved enjoyed themselves.

"It turned out well," said Allison Landry, who became the new office and marketing manager for the team nearly a month ago. "Lots of people showed up and the rain went around us, so it was good,"

The skies looked scary at times Saturday, but they played on. Coming in first was the defending champions from last year's tournament - Dwayne Johnston, Jason Chikita, Tim Acaster, Brody Malek and new to the golf team this year was Mo Al-Mahdawe.

Close to half of the 2009-10 roster was on hand along with the coaching staff, some billets, parents, board members and fans to help support the junior hockey club.

The community support for the North Stars was great. A number of sponsors once again stepped up to help with the event and the buzz starts to set in with hockey season just two months away.
