Driving by Cochin on Highway 4 might take a little longer than usual starting this week.

The timber bridge over Lehman Creek will be demolished and a new precast concrete bridge will be built in the same location.

The concrete arch bridge east of the current bridge on the closed section of road will also be demolished.

The tender for the project, which begins Jan. 24, was awarded to Concreate USL Ltd., supervised by AECOM Canada Ltd.

The project, which is estimated to cost $1.7 million, is expected to be completed by March 31.

Construction will be completed in stages to allow for traffic, although traversing the bridge will take longer.

"It will create a bottle-neck," said Alan Hoffman, area manager for the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure, adding the project has been on the to-do list for some time.
