Update: Search for missing boaters on Wollaston Lake RCMP scaled down

Three overdue boaters, two males and one female, prompted the search. One male was located deceased.

WOLLASTON LAKE - Update Oct. 28: RCMP say search efforts to find two missing boaters on Wollaston Lake will now be based on whether or not any new information is found.

Oct. 28 a release stated, "A dedicated search effort has continued and the two remaining boaters have not been located.

"Wollaston Lake RCMP thanks all of its partners who have assisted with this search including volunteers from the Wollaston Lake and Stanley Mission areas, Hatchet Lake Dene Nation, Prince Albert Grand Council Search and Rescue, the Hutterite Emergency Aquatic Response Team, the Canadian Forces and the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association.

"The search efforts have now become reactive in nature, meaning officers will initiate targeted searching as new information is received.

"Wollaston Lake RCMP asks anyone who locates items of interest, including clothing, in the water or on the shorelines to contact them at 306-633-1200."

Update Oct. 18: One missing boater among three has been located deceased.

Searches continued through the weekend. On Oct. 16, one of the missing males was located deceased in the water. His family has been notified.

"Our thoughts are with his family members," stated an RCMP release.

Efforts to locate the other missing male and female continue. Community volunteers, multiple Saskatchewan RCMP units, the Canadian Rangers and the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association are assisting.

Background Oct. 15: A search for three missing people is going on in the Wallaston Lake area.

On Oct. 13, at approximately 5 p.m., Wollaston Lake RCMP received a complaint of three overdue boaters, two males and one female.

One male boater left Wollaston Lake at approximately 12:30 p.m. to pick up the other male and the female at the barge landing. They were expected to return about two and a half hours later, but did not arrive.

Wollaston Lake RCMP, with the assistance of community volunteers and the Canadian Rangers are actively searching for the missing boaters. The boat they were presumed to be in has now been located on Wollaston Lake. Additional Saskatchewan RCMP resources, as well as a Canadian Forces plane, are being deployed to Wollaston Lake to assist with the search.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the boaters is asked to call the Wollaston Lake RCMP at 306-633-1200.
