AHTAHKAKOOP CREE NATION – Second update Sept. 26, 4:02 p.m.: As a result of the RCMP's continued investigation, a 42-year-old man from Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation is charged with: unauthorized possession of a firearm; possession of firearm when knowing possession unauthorized; possession of firearm in a motor vehicle; possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; discharged firearm while being reckless; weapons possession contrary to order; careless use of a firearm; and pointing a firearm.
The accused was also arrested on an outstanding warrant from Ahtahkakoop RCMP for multiple firearms-related charges.
He is scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Sept. 27.
Ahtahkakoop RCMP continue to investigate.
Update Sept.26, 8:45 a.m.: Ahtahkakoop RCMP have arrested one adult male in relation to this incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
Original post Sept. 25, 9:30 p.m.: RCMP are advising the public to watch for a black Equinox and report it immediately, but say don’t approach it as the occupants are considered armed and dangerous.
The advisory comes after Ahtahkakoop RCMP received a report of a firearm being discharged at a motorist Wednesday. It came in at 6:28 p.m., with the incident having occurred approximately 5-10 minutes before that, just outside of Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation.
RCMP say it was reported that a driver was travelling on a grid road on the north boundary of Ahtahkakoop when they came across a black Chevrolet Equinox parked on the side of the road, looking in need of assistance. The individual pulled over and approached the Equinox. The driver of the Equinox pointed a firearm at the individual and reportedly discharged it in their direction multiple times. No injuries have been reported to police.
It is believed there were three individuals inside the Chevrolet Equinox at the time of the incident: an adult male (the driver) and two adult females. The male driver may have had a tattoo above his right eye.
RCMP say that at this time, they don’t have fulsome descriptions of the individuals in the vehicle. The license plate of the Equinox may be: 642 HPR.
Police are asking anyone who sees the suspect vehicle to report it immediately by calling 310-RCMP. In an emergency, call 911.
Police say the vehicle should not be approached. The occupants are considered armed and dangerous. The public is asked to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to police.
Should an imminent risk to public safety be identified, RCMP say they will notify the public.
