Update: This afternoon, Tuesday, around 2 p.m. Cindy Roberts was located deceased in the water by the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team. Her family has been notified.

The RCMP wishes to acknowledge the work of Grandmother’s Bay Search and Rescue Team, CASARA and community members for their partnership and collaboration with Stanley Mission RCMP and the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team to find the three individuals. RCMP say, “Our thoughts are with their families.â€

Update: Yesterday evening Richard McKenzie was located deceased in the water. RCMP say “our thoughts are with his family.â€

The search continues for Cindy Roberts who is still missing.

Background: On April 17 around 9:30 p.m., three individuals left Grandmother’s Bay on snowmobile and were reported to be traveling to Stanley Mission. They have not been heard from since they left Grandmother’s Bay. The two snowmobiles they are traveling on were an older model blue Polaris and an older model magenta-coloured machine.

Ice conditions are poor due to the thawing/spring weather and there is concern the individuals and snowmobiles may have broken through the ice. Snowmobile tracks were reported by Grandmother’s Bay Search and Rescue going into open water outside of Grandmother’s Bay.

One adult female part of this group was located today deceased in the water. Our thoughts are with the families of her and the other two missing individuals.

The individuals still missing are:

26-year-old Richard McKenzie, who was last seen wearing a grey sweater, black joggers and a black and red hat.

38-year-old Cindy Roberts, who was last seen wearing a black jacket.

Grandmother’s Bay Search and Rescue and the community continues to actively search for the missing individuals since they were reported missing, along with Civil Air Search and Rescue Association searching the shorelines and multiple Stanley Mission RCMP officers. If anyone sees the two individuals or the snowmobiles described above, please contact the Stanley Mission or La Ronge RCMP immediately.

In a separate, unrelated incident, on April 19 around 2:30 a.m., an adult male reported he was lost and his snowmobile stuck while he was traveling from Grandmother’s Bay to Stanley Mission. He was skilled in outdoor survival and was located safe by family and returned to Stanley Mission later the same day.
