A jury trial has been set for September in Prince Alberta Court of Queen's Bench for a Sturgeon Lake woman facing organized crime charges.

Shania Yooya, 25, was arrested in April 2020 after RCMP conducted an investigation into organized crime.

During a search of a residence on Sturgeon Lake First Nation on Feb. 12, 2020, police seized a sawed-off shotgun, ammunition, a replica handgun, a spear gun, and a quantity of suspected hydromorphone.

Yooya is charged with trafficking a controlled substance for a criminal organization, uttering threats for a criminal organization, and conspiracy to commit assault for a criminal organization.

Her trial was delayed due to a combination of the COVID-19 pandemic and Yooya changing lawyers.

Jesse Dillon of Onion Lake was also arrested and charged with recruiting for a criminal organization, trafficking a controlled substance for a criminal organization, uttering threats for a criminal organization, and conspiracy to commit assault for a criminal organization. He is also charged with numerous firearms offences, fabricating evidence, trafficking in methamphetamine and obstruction of justice.

Dillon’s trial date hasn’t been set.
