LA RONGE – A La Ronge man wanted for allegedly having cut off his monitoring device has been arrested and charged after three people were assaulted and had fingers cut off, according to RCMP.

On June 26, La Ronge RCMP received a report of an injured individual at the local hospital. The resulting investigation indicated that an adult male had allegedly taken three adults, who were known to him, to a rural location in the La Ronge detachment area, threatened them with a firearm and assaulted them. Injuries included each having a finger severed.

On July 28, Saskatchewan RCMP’s La Ronge Crime Reduction Team charged 30-year-old Kaylen Charles from La Ronge with:

  • five counts, aggravated assault;
  • two counts, assault with a weapon;
  • two counts, assault by choking;
  • four counts, uttering threats;
  • four counts, pointing a firearm;
  • one count, knowingly possess a firearm without a license;
  • two counts, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
  • one count, mischief over $5,000;
  • one count, possession of a firearm contrary to order; and
  • four counts, fail to comply with release order condition.

A warrant was issued for his arrest. RCMP said he was also on warrant for failing to attend court and failing to comply with a release order condition after La Ronge RCMP received a report that he’d allegedly cut off a device monitoring his court-ordered curfew on June 20.

Saskatchewan RCMP’s La Ronge Crime Reduction Team determined Charles was in a residence in La Ronge on Aug. 9. The residence was surrounded and Charles was arrested without incident. La Ronge RCMP officers assisted with the arrest.

Charles made an appearance in La Ronge Provincial Court on Aug. 12.
