The man charged in connection to the fatal collision involving a 17-year old at Moosomin First Nation is due to return to provincial court Sept. 21.

The man charged in connection to the fatal collision involving a 17-year old at Moosomin First Nation is due to return to provincial court Sept. 21.

Melvin Swiftwolfe, 45, was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death with respect to the incident, which happened on a grid road on the reserve July 30. Swiftwolfe is also charged with operating an unregistered motor vehicle and driving while suspended.

Swiftwolfe appeared in provincial court in North Battleford last Wednesday to face the charges. Also there in the gallery was a large contingent of relatives of the victim.

Soon after that appearance Swiftwolfe was released from custody to allow him to grieve and attend his son's funeral. His conditions include abstaining from alcohol and drugs, and he is also not allowed to drive.

It has been alleged Swiftwolfe was searching for his son following a function on the reserve when he was behind the wheel of the vehicle that struck the 17-year-old on the road. WPD Ambulance reported that they found the victim dead at the scene.
