The students and staff of Marsden Jubilee School raised $824.31 with their annual Terry Fox barbecue and walk, thanks to great support by both parents and community members.
The Marsden Co-op and the Marsden Credit Union hosted a delicious lunch Oct. 20. They raised $825.27, which they donated to the Marsden Community Hall renovation project.
During Library Week (Oct. 17 through 23), each grade went to the Lakeland Library to guess the candies, put their names in for a door prize, sign out some books and have a wonderful snack. The winners of the door prizes, from each grade, were:Logan Blackbeard, Shelby Koedyk, Tobyn Gordon, Josh Granger, Kolby Kurtz, Travis Morgan and Raymond Granger. Allie Ostrom won the jar of candies with the closest guess. Drew Briggs won the children's door prize, and Marjorie Nattress won the adult door prize.
The Marsden School Community Council held their annual meeting on October 25.The Council members are Tracey Zweifel (Chairperson), Karrie Blackbeard (Vice-Chairperson), Bev Nattress (Secretary), Stacey Jackson, Jeannie Wells, Charmaine Graham, and Jody Ostrom, Amanda O'Neil and Lesley Briggs. The Grade 5/6 class hosted the Halloween Spirit Day, Oct. 31. The students met in the library shortly after 1 p.m. and then each group participated in the many games and activities organized by the older students. They enjoyed decorating and eating some cookies, checked out the fortune tellers, played some carnival games and braved Frankenstein's Lab and the haunted house! Parents and other family members joined in for the games, treats and some spooktacular fun.
MJS had a Remembrance Day program Nov. 9, including lunch with members of the Neilburg/Marsden Legion invited to attend, seniors from the community and, of course, many parents. The students practised songs and poems for the enjoyment of all those in attendance. The Grade 5/6 class has been working on a unit on the theme heroes.The students set up displays featuring some of the folk who helped serve the country and were willing to share their stories. A potluck dinner was held afterwards.
MJS held their annual Scholastic Book Fair, Reading is Out of this World, during the week of Nov. 14 through 18. The students always look forward to this sale and, with the help of their parents, it is always a success.
Report cards were sent home Nov. 9 for all grades except kindergarten. Interviews were held Nov. 16 and 17. School was cancelled Nov. 10 and 11.
