PRINCE ALBERT - Saskatchewan Rivers School Division will not allocate staff for the counting of COVID-19 cases in schools as they did during the 2020-2021 school year.
The school division announced the decision in a press release Thursday morning.
“SRPSD has had several cases of COVID affecting its schools and we continue to work closely with the local Health team to communicate directly with the families and school communities affected, but SRPSD won’t be allocating staff time to tabulate and publish cases in schools more broadly,” the email from director of education Robert Bratvold stated.
Several schools have posted about cases on their Facebook pages in the past week.
Cases reported and listed on the dashboard occurred at Ecole Debden, Carlton Comprehensive High School and Prince Albert Collegiate Institute (PACI).
For more information, the division directed families to the COVID-19 cases in schools dashboard, which is currently only updated to Sept. 13 because they are experiencing delays in posting all schools with cases.
The division is expected to release a statement on vaccinations either this week or next week after meeting Dr. Khami Chokani the local Chief Medical Health Officer during a closed session of their regular meeting of the board of education on Monday.
“We continue to urge people to get vaccinated if they are eligible and to employ the various layers of protection available so we can protect those under 12 and others who cannot be vaccinated and we can minimize the transmission of COVID in our communities,” Bratvold stated.
