A resident of the Riverbend Trailer Park in Battleford gave Mayor Chris Odishaw and town council an earful about the local streets at a council meeting Sept. 6.
Judy Tokle, a resident from the area, ran off a lengthy list of complaints from trailer court residents about conditions of the streets from 31st to 34th Street and adjoining Fifth Avenue.
The complaints mainly revolved around the amount of dust kicked up by traffic using the nearby gravel roads on Fifth Avenue in Battleford.
"Our homes, our patios and decks, our outdoor furniture, our barbecues, our vehicles, our flowers, our grass, our fences and sheds, our screens and our windows are all covered in dust from the roads," said Tokle, who described the soil on the street as like "a fine powder" that hangs in the air.
She said it isn't possible to enjoy summer outside because of the dust. As well, she notes Fifth Avenue is incredibly busy with traffic, noting the number of trucks that rumble through or park near the area.
Odishaw noted in the discussion that followed that the Fifth Avenue issue had been on council's radar for some time.
He expressed willingness to work with residents to come up with some potential solutions to their concerns, which might include paving Fifth Avenue. Odishaw suggested some reclaimed asphalt from the Highway 4 twinning might be used to pave Fifth Avenue. Some other ideas put forward at the meeting by residents will also be considered, he said.
"We are giving administration direction to look into how we can alleviate these issues," Odishaw told reporters.
