Saskatchewan Roughriders receivers Weston Dressler and Chris Getzlaf made an appearance to Maymont Central School Nov. 17.
Both players made presentations to the students about striving to do their best in school. They also discussed the importance of life skills and how being a team player was crucial to their future success.
They told the students "being able to work with other people" is the key to being a successful citizen and obtaining a great career after graduating high school.
In their presentation they discussed what it was like to play under head coach Ken Miller. They described Miller as a coach who was highly respected by everyone in the Riders locker room. Dressler and Getzlaf noted "he is a true leader that treated players with respect both on and off the field". He also had the ability to motivate players and teach them the importance of a "team approach" to winning, they said.
Their speeches were educational, giving students insight into the importance of school and why it's important to be good citizens by trying to be positive role models for others.
This will be one of the highlights of the year for the students. It's not often a school has the opportunity host two professional football players.
The staff, students, parents and community members appreciated the effort that both players put forth and will all be excited to see them on the football field again next season. The students got a chance to have autographs/ photos and a question/ answer session with both Getzlaf and Dressler.
