DENARE BEACH — Saskatchewan RCMP are investigating a death in a Denare Beach house fire last week as suspicious.
The fire was reported to authorities around 9 p.m. local time Oct. 14 on Muskwa Street in Denare Beach. Police said firefighters from the Denare Beach Fire Department, Creighton Fire Department and officers from Creighton RCMP arrived at the scene and found a deceased person inside the home.
"Based on the investigation to date by Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, the person’s death is considered suspicious," reads a statement from RCMP Oct. 17.
"Based on investigation to date by the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, fire investigators with the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency and Prince Albert RCMP Forensic Identification Services, the fire is also believed to be suspicious. We do not have further information to release about the fire investigation at this time."
RCMP have also said they do not have evidence to support the fire being related to an increase in calls for service throughout Creighton and Denare Beach this month. The communities have been hit with a crime wave that has included several break-and-enters, stolen vehicles, thefts and an arson fire in recent days.
"At this time, the investigation has determined these suspicious events are not related to a recent increase in calls for service in Creighton RCMP Detachment area," reads the police statement.
No identifying details about the person have been released by RCMP, with police citing a need to identify the person through an autopsy.
"RCMP is investigating in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service to determine the individual’s identity. We stress that the individual’s identity must be confirmed via autopsy before the RCMP is able to provide further information about them," reads the police statement.
