The provincial Green party continues to line up its candidates in the northwest region as they continue to prepare for the November 7 provincial election.
Among the ridings the Greens will be contesting is the Battlefords, where the party announced recently that Owen Swiderski has been confirmed as its candidate.
Swiderski currently works as a driver for TNM Concrete in the Battlefords. He is 33 years old, is married and the father of a young boy. His personal website is already up in advance of the election at owenswiderski.ca, along with his Twitter and Facebook accounts.
He is likely to face a crowded field in the fall election in the Battlefords, with NDP MLA Len Taylor and Saskatchewan Party candidate Herb Cox both nominated last year and with provincial Liberal leader Ryan Bater running as well.
The Greens also plan to field a candidate in the Cut Knife-Turtleford constituency, with Vinessa Currie expected to be the party's candidate there. The Saskatchewan Party has already nominated Larry Doke while Bernadette Gopher is the NDP candidate.
Other confirmed candidates for the Greens in the northwest region include Meggan Hougham in Lloydminster and former Battlefords-Lloydminster federal candidate Norbert Kratchmer in Kindersley. A candidate has not yet been announced in Rosthern-Shellbrook as of yet.
So far the Green Party has either nominated or lined up prospective candidates in 30 Saskatchewan ridings. In a visit to the Battlefords last year, party leader Larissa Shasko said the Greens expected to run a full slate in the 2011 election.
