Nine people facing charges related to Treaty Land Entitlement fraud and theft on Poundmaker First Nation will have their case come back to court in October.
The charges against Chief Duane Antoine, former chief Ted Antoine and seven others were adjourned Tuesday following a brief court appearance before Judge Violet Meekma. In a conference call involving defence counsel, the matters have been adjourned to Oct. 4 in Cut Knife Provincial Court.
All are charged with theft and fraud over $5,000 and with breach of trust charges with respect to money set aside specifically for land purchases for the reserve. Five also face charges of breach of trust by a public official.
Both Duane and Ted Antoine were represented by Ivan Frank while six others - Colin Favel, Bryan Tootoosis, Irene Tootoosis, Norman Antoine, Hickson Weenie and Burton Baptiste - are represented by the Scharfstein Gibbings Walen Fisher firm.
One more accused, Victoria McMillan, was in court Tuesday seeking to make an application for court-appointed counsel. Her matters were also adjourned to Oct. 4.
