Building permits in 2011 aren't off to quite the torrid pace seen in 2010, just yet.
In January, eight permits were issued for a total of $1,774,000, compared to six issued for $7,686,000 in January 2010.
While the permit values were down from January 2010, a month that had seen a $6,950,000 permit issued for the expansion of Water Treatment Plant No.1, the number of permits issued were up overall thanks to increases in the categories of new dwellings, residential alterations and commercial alterations.
Three new dwelling permits were issued in January 2011 for $1,417,500 compared to zero in January 2010.
Two residential alterations were issued for $10,000, again compared to nil in January 2010.
There were two new commercial alterations permits in January 2011 issued for $294,000, compared to 1 for $100,000 issued the previous year. And there was one new commercial alteration issued for $52,500, which compared to one issued for $600,000 the previous year.
The building permit report was submitted by Jerry Wintonyk, city building inspector, at Monday's council meeting.
