From the Humboldt Vintage Club located south of Humboldt, the tractors, which included Cases, IHs and John Deeres, took the backroads to travel to Muenster and back.
“We’re doing this just as a fun project for a lot of the members here,” said Murray Hergott, the president of the club. “During the course of the year, we ended up a lot of times just coming out here for fixing and so on and this is actually more of a fun event.”
The idea came from Ralph Kiefer, who’s from the St. Gregor area.
“He has been doing this thing in the St. Gregor area for quite some time, going from place to place, so he suggested that at one of the meetings and it was very well received,” Hergott said.
The club president said they’ve been busy over the past year, not only working on vintage tractors but also giving the interior of the house at the site a paint job.
“We wanted to have a steak fry and we were going to have it, but that had to be cancelled because of the COVID thing again,” he said. “Hopefully next year, everything's going to be going well.”
In the coming years, Hergott said the club would like to look at building a new facility to store equipment, as they have plenty that should be under a roof. Such a facility would require a big fundraising effort.
As for taking the vintage tractors out for a ride in the future, Hergott said he’s hoping they can do that again.
“I'm hoping that we can continue to do this a few times each year, to go out to the surrounding areas and find some interesting trails or roads.”
