BATTLEFORDS - An Onion Lake man was sentenced to an additional four years in prison for charges out of Alberta.
Michael Patrick Hill, 23, was serving eight months in Saskatchewan for theft over $5,000 and breaching a curfew. He was sentenced on those charges in Lloydminster Provincial Court in February of this year.
In January 2021 Alberta RCMP arrested Hill after an incident that started in Vermillion and ended in a high-speed police chase near Sherwood Park. In that incident, an RCMP officer pursuing Hill hit the ditch and rolled. The officer was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries.
Hill was charged with assault with a weapon, dangerous operation of a vehicle, flight from a peace officer, pointing a firearm, operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited, possession of stolen property under $5,000, possession of stolen property over $5,000, and failing to comply with release conditions. During Hill’s sentencing hearing at the end of August several weapons and theft charges were withdrawn.
He was found guilty of dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving while prohibited, flight from a peace officer, and failing to comply with release conditions. He was given three driving prohibitions of two years each.
Hill was given 315 days credit for time served in pre-trial custody.
