NIPAWIN — Nipawin-Smeaton RCMP responded to 347 calls for service over the month of December including 22 motor vehicle collisions.
“With the often treacherous road conditions, motorists often tend to fail to modify their driving habits to suit the situation,” S/Sgt. Terry Posnikoff reported to Nipawin council during their meeting on Jan. 24.
“Local RCMP as well as combined traffic units will continue to be vigilant in their commitment to ensuring that local roadways are safe as possible.”
Other calls include one sex related offence, seven possession/trafficking drugs, eight assaults, seven harassment/utter threats, 19 break and enter/theft, nine impaired drivers over .08 per cent, 18 mischief/vandalism, seven breaches of court orders, eight disturbing the peace, 24 alarms/911, one firearm/weapon investigations, five frauds, and 85 calls under the Traffic Safety Act.
Over the remainder of the winter months, Posnikoff said road safety will be the immediate priority for local law enforcement. Other immediate priorities include continued checks and enforcement of local prolific offenders where officers conduct frequent in-person checks on court ordered curfews and/or conditions; as well as targeting criminalized drugs.
