MEADOW LAKE — Meadow Lake RCMP are publicizing some results from their operations to underscore their commitment to removing impaired drivers from the road.
In the span of 27 hours from Friday, Feb. 25 to Sunday, Feb. 27, officers arrested four people for impaired driving-related offences.
On Feb. 25, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Meadow Lake RCMP stopped a vehicle in the city of Meadow Lake. Officers determined the male driver was impaired. He was arrested and charged with:
- 1 count, impaired operation of a conveyance;
- 1 count, impaired operation of a conveyance over.
He will appear in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on April 4, 2022.
On Feb. 26 at approximately 7:30 p.m., Meadow Lake RCMP received a report of an erratic driver on Highway 799. Officers located the vehicle, which had been driven off the road and determined the female driver was impaired.
A young infant was in the car and was not properly restrained in a car seat.
The driver was charged with:
- 1 count, impaired operation of a conveyance;
- 1 count, impaired operation of a conveyance over .08.
She also received tickets for operating a vehicle with an unrestrained passenger under 16 years old and for having open alcohol in the vehicle.
She will appear in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on April 11.
On Feb. 26 at approximately 8:20 p.m., officers responded to a report of a two vehicle collision on Highway 55, just west of the junction with Highway 155. The driver of one vehicle was treated for minor injuries at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle had left the scene.
Officers located and arrested the male driver, who was determined to be impaired.
The driver was charged with:
- 1 count, impaired operation of a conveyance;
- 1 count, impaired operation of a conveyance over .08;
- 1 count, driving while prohibited;
- 1 count, fail to remain at the scene of a collision.
He has appeared in court and has been remanded into custody to appear in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on March 14.
On Feb. 27 at approximately 1:40 a.m., officers located an impaired driver close to the Meadow Lake RCMP detachment. An adult female was charged with:
- 1 count, impaired operation of a conveyance;
- 1 count, impaired operation of a conveyance over .08;
She will appear in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on May 9.
“Driving while impaired is illegal and dangerous – and Meadow Lake RCMP are committed to removing impaired drivers from our roads and streets,” says Meadow Lake RCMP S/Sgt. Ryan How. “We remind everyone that if you are planning to drink or use cannabis, also plan for a safe ride home or to stay the night where you are. We also remind people of the Report Impaired Drivers program – if you see a driver you suspect to be impaired, pull over and call 911 immediately."
