NORTH BATTLEFORD - The Capitol Theatre will be requiring face masks again in all common areas of their theatre, effective Friday.
Earlier Thursday the Capitol announced they would impose the requirement starting Sept. 21, with patrons still able to take their masks off to eat theatre snacks.
But that was trumped later on Thursday by news from the province that they were mandating the use of non-medical masks in all indoor public spaces in Saskatchewan beginning Sept. 17.
That means the mask mandate will come into effect at the Capitol earlier than planned. Soon, proof of vaccination will be required as well.
As of Oct. 1 the province is requiring proof of vaccination or negative test for public access to several venues including movie theatres.
In their announcement on Facebook, the Capitol had cited the rise in COVID-19 numbers in the area as reason for the return to masks.
“As we know, COVID numbers in our area are climbing, the hospital is filling and we want to do our part to slow the spread,” they stated on Facebook. “In addition, it is also cold and flu season, so we want to protect our staff, guests and community at large from these illnesses.
“Our employees are doing their part, sanitizing regularly, and wearing their masks. Now, we respectfully ask you to also mask up. Our team needs to stay healthy in order to bring you the movies, and the last thing any of us wants is to have to close the theatre. These safety measures help us stay open, and bring the movies to you. If you are unable to wear a face mask, we ask that you stay home for now, and once we are able to lift this restriction safely, we will welcome you back with open arms.”
