Man accused of firing gun at an Onion Lake home seeks bail

One of two men accused of discharging a firearm at a home on Onion Lake Cree Nation, Sask., had a bail hearing today.

The show cause hearing for Gerome Christopher Okemow, 20, from Onion Lake Cree Nation, was held in Lloydminster Provincial Court.

The details of what was said during the hearing can’t be published.

Judge Kim Young reserved the court’s decision and adjourned the matter until May 19.

Lane Ryder Pahtayken, 23, of Onion Lake, is also charged in the incident.

According to Onion Lake RCMP, shots were fired at a home at about 9:30 a.m. on April 10. The people inside the home escaped to a nearby residence and weren’t harmed.

Alberta RCMP arrested Pahtayken and Okemow a few hours later near Kitscoty.

Pahtayken was charged with seven firearms-related offences, flight from a peace officer, dangerous driving, theft of a truck, mischief over $5,000, damage to property, and failing to comply with an undertaking. He also has charges from February including assault, obstruction and breach of an undertaking.

Okemow is charged with five firearms-related offences, flight from a peace officer, dangerous driving, theft of a truck, mischief over $5,000, and damage to property. Okemow also had an appearance today and his matter was adjourned to May 19.
