Man accused of causing Netmaker’s death after abducting him granted bail in P.A. court

PRINCE ALBERT – A man charged with forcible confinement and criminal negligence causing death was granted bail today in Prince Albert Provincial Court.

Ahenakew, Stephanie Starblanket, 34, and Roderick Dreaver, 26, were charged in October 2021 in connection with the death of 36-year-old Richard Netmaker of Big River First Nation. In July 2021, RCMP arrested and charged Karlyne Morin with criminal negligence causing death and two counts of forcible confinement.

RCMP say Big River RCMP responded to a complaint on Jan. 6, 2020, that Netmaker was abducted from his residence and assaulted. On Jan. 10, 2020, Big River RCMP located him deceased in a rural area near Pekakumew Lake.

Starblanket was released on Sept. 17, and appears again on Nov. 9. Dreaver appears on Nov. 17. Ahenakew appears in Prince Albert Provincial Court again on Nov. 8.

The charges against the accused haven’t been proven in court.
