The weather wouldn't co-operate, but it didn't dampen the fun at Pine Island Lodge Saturday. The activities department organizes a summer fun day for residents and community members every summer.

This year, they planned a Pet Day with a pet show and a visit from the Hot Doggers agility club from Lloydminster. The morning began with children and staff members showing off their pets to residents in the sitting area of Pine Island Lodge.

Everyone had a chance to visit with the friendly creatures and prizes were given to the handlers and ribbons to the animals for their behavior, appearances and abilities.

There were tricks, cuddles and giggles during the show and the children had an opportunity to have their faces painted as animals before the next big event.

The Hot Doggers usually perform outdoors or in bigger venues, but the rain was falling so they set up their course in the Maidstone Health Complex atrium corridor. A large crowd gathered to watch the obstacle course, jumping competition and even a relay race between a team of dogs and a team of local children. The children didn't have to crawl through the tunnel, but did win the best out of three challenge. Running through the hallway of a health care facility was never so much fun or loudly applauded.

No summer fun would be complete without fun food and the event concluded with a hot dog lunch open to the community. The crowd was a little smaller than usual because of the weather, but everyone who attended had a great time enjoying the fun and visiting with friends.
