Lloydminster man gets bail on weapons, assault charges in two provinces

LLOYDMINSTER – A lawyer for a Lloydminster man facing weapons and assault charges in two provinces asked the court for a three-week adjournment.

Saskatoon defence Brian Pfefferle waived 31-year-old Jason Krysta’s appearance Monday in Lloydminster Provincial Court.

North Battleford Crown prosecutor Michael Rankine told the court that some of the charges against Krysta are indictable.

The court heard that Krysta has been released from the Red Deer Remand Centre where he was held after being arrested in Red Deer, Alta., Jan. 11, 2022, and charged with robbery with a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a firearm in a vehicle, unauthorized possession of a firearm, pointing a firearm, possession of a firearm contrary to an order, disobeying a court order, and failing to comply with conditions.

In Saskatchewan, Krysta was arrested in Lloydminster on Nov. 20, 2021, and charged with assault causing bodily harm, assault, break and enter to a home in Lloydminster with intent to commit an indictable offence, two counts of threats to cause death, two counts of theft of a cell phone from two separate people with threats to use violence, theft of keys with threat to use violence, mischief by damaging a door, and failing to comply with a release order not to carry or have weapons except work tools while used at a job site, or utensils used while preparing or eating food.

The charges against him haven’t been proven in court.

Judge Kevin Hill issued a warrant to hold for Krysta.

Krysta appears next in Red Deer court March 2 to elect how he wants to be tried and in Lloydminster, Sask., court March 21.
