The Leask Hotel burned to the ground in a major fire there Wednesday morning.

Blaine Lake RCMP reports they were called to the fire at the nearly 100-year-old hotel in Leask, located north of Blaine Lake, at around 2:43 a.m. Upon arrival, they found the hotel/bar engulfed in flames.

Fire departments from Leask and the surrounding struggled in the bitter cold to douse the blaze. As of about 11 a.m. Wednesday, fire crews and the RCMP were still at the scene.

There was only one occupant in the building at the time of the fire, who was able to get out safely.

The fire is still under investigation.

Freelance reporter Vivian Nemish was on the scene. Watch for her coverage in next week's Regional Optimist.
