A Lloydminster man was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty to manslaughter following the death of his infant son.

James Larose, 25, was sentenced to 5 and a half years in Battleford Queen's bench court. He had been originally charged with second degree murder.

According to the agreed statement of facts filed in court, Larose had been drinking heavily and flew into a rage when his infant son Camden pooped on him while trying to change his diaper.

Larose punched the child five times in the stomach, which ruptured the small intestine. The child was found dead the next morning.
