RCMP are cautioning hunters to be sure to wear highly visible clothing and to be aware of their surroundings this hunting season after a hunter was wounded Thursday near Moose Country, north of Glaslyn.

A 72-year-old man from Staten Island, N.Y. faces several charges after a man was accidentally shot in a wooded area about 65 kilometres south of Meadow Lake, according to the RCMP.

Alan Guskind appeared in Meadow Lake court to face charges of careless use of firearm, criminal negligence causing bodily harm and discharging/handling a firearm in a careless manner or without consideration. The first two charges are criminal code offenses, the third is under the Saskatchewan Wildlife Act.

Guskind was released on $15,000 sureties, and is to return to Meadow Lake, for court in April.

RCMP members from Meadow Lake, Glaslyn and Turtleford, Meadow Lake Ambulance and Meadow Lake Area Saskatchewan Environment Resource Management responded to the call at about 6 p.m.
