HUMBOLDT, MUENSTER — A regional job fair hosted by the Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce aims to connect job seekers with businesses wanting to fill positions.
"When we walk into any business in our region, the central theme [we're hearing] is always: 'we're having trouble finding staff,'" said Brent Fitzpatrick, the chamber's executive director.
On SaskJobs.ca, the province's job posting site, there are 271 opening in the Humboldt area as of April 25.
The event will be taking place at the St. Peter's College gymnasium in Muenster on Wednesday, May 11 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
"This is a great opportunity for the business community to chat directly with job seekers from a wide geographic area," Fitzpatrick said.
"The good folks at BHP are strong supporters of this event and will have many of their contractors in attendance. Regional members of the Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce will be attendance as well."
Approximately 42 businesses will attend. Fitzpatrick said around 20 tables have been booked, with the remainder open to chamber members on a first-come-first-serve basis.
"We're hoping to get quite a cross section of people there at this event," the executive director said. "If you're looking, then this is where you want to be on May 11."
The event is the first of two that BHP and their contractors will be participating in, with the second at the Muskowekwan First Nation Bingo Hall on Thursday, May 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
