Human remains found on Big Island Cree Nation

Anyone with information can contact local police.

BIG ISLAND CREE NATION – Human remains were discovered recently in the landfill at Big Island Cree Nation.

Pierceland RCMP responded to a call on April 21 of the discovery, and an extensive search was conducted by Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes.

"A forensic autopsy was completed on  April 24 in Saskatoon," said RCMP in a media release. "The results of this autopsy have eliminated recent missing persons from the area." 

The case has now been taken over by the Saskatchewan RCMP's Historical Case Unit, who is working with the Missing Person Coordinator, Saskatchewan Coroner's Office, Pierceland RCMP, the Big Island Cree Nation, and the National Centre for Missing Persons and Human Remains. Families of missing persons are also assisting in the investigation.

"Anyone with information about this release is asked to call the Pierceland RCMP Detachment (306) 839-3330 or your local police service," RCMP said. Information can also be shared through Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
