Two longtime firefighters in 聽the City of North Battleford received recognition for years of service at a presentation Monday at city council.

Rob Beatch was presented by Mayor David Gillan with the 30-year Exemplary Services Award from the Government of Canada as well as the Canadian Volunteer Fire Service Association鈥檚 Long Service Medal.

As well, Brian Marchewka was presented by Mayor Gillan the 40-year Exemplary Service Award.

Both received certificates signed by the governor general of Canada.

In his remarks, Director of Protective Services/ Fire Chief Lindsay Holm noted the mayor would be using the word 鈥渆xemplary鈥 in his presentation, and said 鈥渂oth of these firefighters really define that word.鈥

He said what stood out with Beatch was his 鈥渓evel of dedication,鈥 saying he would be 鈥渉ard-pressed to know of any structure fires that we鈥檝e had in the city that Rob has not attended.鈥

Marchewka has been a long-serving captain with the North Battleford fire department and also looks after the breathing apparatus within the department. Holm called him 鈥渙ne of the great leaders we do have at the fire station.鈥
