Cindy Gange, originally from the Battlefords, has been recognized as a health care hero in Langley, B.C.
The recreational therapist supervisor at the Langley Memorial Hospital received the 2011 Gold Apple for her dedication to residents, especially her efforts toward inclusion in the community.
Gagne has organized multiple events for the residents including a parade and a special torch relay during the Olympics.
As one of her co-workers said, "Cindy exceeds her role and it is her passion for our residents to have an exceptional quality of life that spurs her on. Cindy always has the best interests of the residents at the forefront in all aspects of every event, large or small. Cindy is a role model and has taught me so much."
The Health Employers Association of BC presents Excellence in BC Health Care awards annually to recognize outstanding health care employees and reward innovation and best practices within the publicly-funded health system. Gagne accepted her award at a ceremony in Vancouver in June.
Gagne is the first recreational therapist to receive the award, with a majority of the recipients being chief executive officers.
After completing elementary and high school in the Battlefords, Gagne studied at the University of Saskatchewan and Kelsey Institute. She has lived in British Columbia for approximately 15 years.
