Details of incentives the City used to bring Grit Industries to their new location at 100 Canola Street in North Battleford were revealed.

Tax exemptions were approved Monday, including 100 per cent exemption for the first three years and 50 per cent for the fourth year. It is all conditional on the creation of 60 full-time equivalent jobs within the first 12 months from startup.

The city is moving ahead with creation of 43 new lots in Killdeer Park. A plan of proposed subdivision was received by city administration for the creation of new streets, Sandpiper Trail and Finch Crescent. Council has passed a resolution advising Sahara Properties the city will require a developing and servicing agreement concerning the subdivision.

Council has adopted a strategic plan for the city. Nuguru Business and Marketing Consultants Inc. had engaged to facilitate a strategic planning session. A number of meetings were held to develop the plan including all members of council, senior administration and Nuguru staff.

The plan includes a vision statement, a mission statement, core values, six major priorities, possible initiatives for each priority and a next step process. It passed unanimously.

An update was provided regarding construction of the Credit Union CUPlex from Parks and Recreation Director Keith Anderson..

A leak test is underway on the competition pool, and piping, siding and form pouring is ongoing for the aquatic centre. Substantial completion is estimated for March 27, 2012. As well, substantial completion of the Dekker Centre is estimated for Dec. 20. The Northland Power Curling Centre is estimated to be complete by May 31, 2012 while the field house completion date July 2012.

Special mention was made in his report of the funeral procession for the late radio personality Christine Dekker last month. The Dekker family funeral procession made its way past the Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts, named for her late husband Harry Dekker, en route to the burial site.

At the site that day, Battlefords Funeral Service and APM Construction specially arranged for 100 trades people to line up in a show of respect for the late Mrs. Dekker.
