Four Nutcracker soldiers and two Christmas trees, made by Futuristic Industries, were stolen from a display at the Humboldt Festival of Lights.

HUMBOLDT — A set of Christmas decorations being displayed at the campground as part of the Festival of Lights was stolen.

Humboldt RCMP said the decorations, made by Futuristic Industries, were stolen between 5 p.m. on Nov. 26 and the morning of Nov. 28.

“Our grinches came in over the weekend, and took four Nutcracker soldiers and two of our extraordinarily large Christmas trees,” said Brent Fitzpatrick, the director of the Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce, which hosts the Festival of Lights. “They're about six or seven feet tall, about six feet wide. They weigh a ton.”

Fitzpatrick added they broke a third Christmas tree, which was left at the site. He said the culprits would have to have used a vehicle to move the decorations.

Police said the stolen decorations are worth around $900.

Fitzpatrick said he was disappointed and sad the theft had happened.

“We run this Festival of Lights to generate a silver collection, so that we can donate money to nonprofit organizations in our communities. This could impact on that. It's very disappointing.”

The executive director had a message for the culprits.

“You're stealing from a nonprofit group, you're stealing things that were made by a nonprofit group, and you're stealing away the potential for revenue that we give to nonprofit groups,” he said. “Your mom must be proud.”

Fitzpatrick said the chamber is actively engaged in replacing the stolen decorations.

Those with any information about this or any other crime are asked to contact the Humboldt RCMP at 306-682-2535 or anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
