We were saddened on learning of the death of Ted (Theodore) Snell, who grew up in the village of Waseca.

Snell was born Sept. 26, 1950 in the Maidstone Hospital. He was the first of five children born to Ernie and Gladys Snell, long-time residents of the village and area.

Snell was pre-deceased by his parents and by his brothers Steve and Bill and his sister-in-law Sandy. He is survived by his brother Bob and his wife Heather and their family, his sister Renee and husband, Morris Donovan and their family.

Snell, along with his brothers and sister attended Waseca School and Maidstone High School. They all took part in many sports, mainly hockey and ball making good use of the village facilities.

Snell lived at home for a time after graduating from high school, working on service and drilling rigs. He moved to Saskatoon where he worked at the Mendel Art Gallery and more recently he spent many years living and working in Lloydminster.

Snell passed away suddenly Aug. 6. A graveside service for his burial was held Aug. 12 at Waseca Cemetery with family and friends in attendance.

Our condolences go out to his family and friends.

The afternoon of Aug. 12 saw the family and friends of Cassi Cheesbrough gathered at Waseca Community Centre to honour her with a bridal shower. Many beautiful and useful gifts were presented to her with best wishes for a long and happy married life. She graciously thanked everyone for coming and for the gifts.

Cassi and Trevor Broadhead will be married Sept. 10 in the yard of their home in Waseca with evening festivities taking place in the hall. Our best wishes go out to them.

Cougen Pegg arrived home last week after spending three months in Australia. While there, she worked on farms and travelled having many interesting adventures. The trip to Australia was part of a scholarship grogram connected with her attendance at Olds Agricultural College.

Saturday, Cougen and her mother Eleanor travelled to Saskatoon to meet with Cougen's sister Dallas Coote, who travelled from Regina so they could spend the day together and reminisce about Cougen's trip.

Did you know that during pioneer days in Upper Canada, being a chandler or candle-maker was a thriving business?

They kept busy making and selling candles for the basic supply of light in the homes.
