A fire set by a minor under 12 years old has burned down the community hall at Moosomin First Nation.

The fire happened Friday with Battlefords Rural RCMP responding around 3:30 p.m. April 29. According to police the fire started in a garbage receptacle next to the community hall and the flames spread to the building. The result was a complete loss of the structure.

RCMP responded the next morning at 3 a.m. to a fire that destroyed an abandoned residence.

It was later determined that the fire to the community hall was caused by a young person under the age of 12, who put a burning stick into the garbage receptacle. Because of his age, police say there will be no criminal proceedings.

The investigation into the fire to the abandoned residence continues.
