Battleford Volunteer Fire Department members were out Monday night, practising their firefighting techniques while creating controlled burns to deal with built up grass and weeds surrounding the town. North Battleford Fire and Emergency Services crews were busy responding to several non-intentional grass fires this week.

North Battleford Fire and Emergency Services responded to a number of fire emergencies in the area on Monday.

Two of the emergencies were, once again, grass fires. At around 6:18 pm Monday, NBFES responded to a grass/brush fire about 2 km east on Canola Ave. towards the sewage treatment plant. Less than one acre was burnt, and North Battleford fire crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire before it spread to the neighbouring field.

At around 9:40pm, NBFES responded to a grass fire behind the swimming pool on the 1900 block of 106th Street. Less than an acre of grass was burnt. No injuries were reported.

Shortly before 10pm, fire crews responded to a dumpster fire at the back of the 1500 block of 102nd street. The contents of the dumpster were fully involved, but the fire was contained with no further damage to the neighbouring fence.
