The F.E. Holliday water treatment plant is back in operation following a Monday electrical incident that sent two workers to hospital.
As a result, the reduce-water advisory that had been in place has now been lifted by the city, as water from the plant is again flowing to the community.
According to the city, officials from SaskPower, as well as Fedler Electric and the city of North Battleford public works department worked at F. E. Holliday to repair what was described as "extensive damage to the electrical equipment at the plant." The City said that the main fuses and transformer had been damaged and were not operating.
Crews were working around the clock to repair the plant. Power remained out at F.E. Holliday, the city's surface-water treatment plant, through most of Tuesday afternoon as the city relied on its main groundwater plant, Water Treatment Plant No. 1, to handle the load.
The electrical problem at F.E. Holliday was repaired early Tuesday evening and the plant was able to pump through the night. The city expressed appreciation to all residents and businesses for restricting their water use over the past days.
The incident on Monday at the plant injured two contractors who had been working on the electrical panel at the plant Monday when the incident took place, with both workers injured by arcing from the panel. One was sent to the burn unit at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon while the other was released from Battlefords Union Hospital. Occupational Health and Safety were on the scene Monday afternoon to investigate.
