Extreme cold hanging around

extreme cold canada
It's cold right across much of Canada.

Environment Canada has issued extreme cold warnings for most of Saskatchewan, and indeed for a good chunk of the southern half of the country east of British Columbia.

The warning indicates a multi-day episode of very cold wind chills is expected.

A bitterly cold arctic airmass is expected remain over Saskatchewan for the next couple of days, resulting in an extended period of extreme wind chills. Wind chill values of -40 to -45 were lingering in some areas late this morning but were expected to moderate somewhat this afternoon. Extreme wind chill values are again expected this evening.

Environment Canada reminds the public that extreme cold puts everyone at risk.

Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.
They also remind the public that if it's too cold for us to stay outside, it's too cold for our pets to stay outside.

Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.
