Young people in the Battlefords area will continue to have a place to hang out and have fun - thanks in part to a $10,000 grant from the Access Communications Children's Fund.
The grant will go the Battlefords Boys and Girls Club Evening Program.
"At Access, we believe that it's not enough to be in a community - we want to be part of it," Children's Fund Chair Doug Alexander said. "The Battlefords Boys and Girls Club makes a vital contribution to the well-being of children and youth in its home region, and we are delighted to lend a hand."
Battlefords Boys and Girls Club is a non-profit agency created to provide for the recreational, cultural and social needs of all children six to 17 years of age in the Battlefords area. The Evening Program provides a place for at-risk youth to drop in and runs weekday evenings. The program includes gym, swimming, cooking, games, arts and crafts and activities that help to build self-esteem.
"Over the past three years, the number of participants in our evening program has tripled - and the demand on our resources has increased significantly," Battlefords Boys and Girls Club Executive Director Sheri Woolridge said.
"This grant will help us to continue to offer our tried-and-true existing programs, as well as a range of new programs that will benefit young people in our community."
"The Boys and Girls Club has played such an important role in our community for a number of years and we want to help that continue," Access Communications regional manager (Northwest District) Martin Smith added.
