Electric scooter causes structure fire in Saskatoon

The damage estimate on the Avenue V structure fire is $200K.

The Saskatoon Fire Department responded to two separate fires on Wednesday, Oct. 16.

SASKATOON—The Saskatoon Fire Department investigator determined an electric scooter caused the house fire on Wednesday morning, Oct. 16, in the 400 block of Avenue V Â鶹´«Ã½AV.

The fire investigator took over the scene after responding fire crews cleared that the fire had been completely extinguished.

The fire investigator concluded the electric scooter caused the fire, but it was unclear whether the charging source or the battery was responsible. The damage estimate is $200,000.

SFD dispatch received the call of the structure fire at 8:30 a.m. The first arriving crews saw smoke and flames coming from multiple windows in the house.

Firefighters advanced hose lines to apply water from the home's exterior while another crew entered to check if occupants were left inside.

The search confirmed that everyone was safely evacuated, and there were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.

In other news, another structure fire was reported at 12:51 p.m. in the 900 block of Avenue J Â鶹´«Ã½AV. Responding firefighters observed the fire was coming from the back of the home.

Fire crews advanced hose lines to attack the structure’s exterior while a separate group searched the home to confirm no occupants remained inside. All residents safely evacuated.

No civilians or firefighters were injured. A fire investigator took over the scene to examine the cause, origin, and damage estimate.
