Air support, police dog used to help arrest suspect following bear-spray incident

SASKATOON - A man is dealing with charges following a bear-spray incident in Saskatoon.

On Aug. 26 at approximately 1:20 a.m. police noticed a group of people moving in a suspicious manner in the area of 21st Street West and Avenue U Â鶹´«Ã½AV.

The Air Support Unit (ASU) began monitoring the altercation from above and saw a man deploying bear spray. Ground units then attended to the scene and located the suspect; however, he fled on foot.

At this time, the Canine Unit was deployed and was successful in assisting other officers arrest the suspect. When police searched him, they found he had bear spray in his possession.

The suspect was treated by a paramedic at SPS detention for injuries consistent with a dog bite.

As a result, an 18-year-old man is facing charges related to resisting a peace officer, possession of a weapon, and concealing a weapon.
