SASKATOON - A man is facing several charges including dangerous driving after taking elaborate risks to evade police in Saskatoon.

At approximately 8:50 p.m. on Sept. 15 police attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Spadina Crescent East and 25th Street East; however, the vehicle fled, evading police, driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of College Drive.

At this time, ground officers disengaged, and the Saskatoon Police Air Support Unit (ASU) began monitoring the vehicle from the sky. ASU monitored the vehicle as it exited the city on Highway 5. ASU then guided ground units to the suspect vehicle where a tire deflation device was successfully deployed.

Shortly after, officers were able to disable to suspect vehicle; however, the driver failed to comply with police commands resulting in the use of a police service dog.

The driver was then arrested.

As a result, a 25-year-old man is facing charges relating to dangerous driving, operating a vehicle while prohibited from doing so, failure to comply with police demands, impaired driving, and evading police.

The driver was also found to have multiple warrants for his arrest for evading police, and dangerous driving.

This story has been updated to correct the misinterpretation that a drone was used. It was in fact a plane.
