HUMBOLDT — Frank Carpentieri, Humboldt’s planning co-ordinator, said his office is receiving more interest from developers about starting new projects.
As per standard procedure, any new construction or property additions are required to go through the city’s planning co-ordinator prior to formal application submission in order to review the project.
“The discussions around development have certainly increased in the last six months,” Carpentieri said. “My office has definitely seen an increase. All I can say is it’s encouraging from what we can see from the inquiries that we have been getting, and they have been inquiries about brand new builds, not ones that are existing or repurposing a vacant storefront or anything like that.”
Carpentieri said this increase in interest applies to both the commercial and residential subdivisions, but isn’t guaranteed prior to receiving and approving the formal application submission.
“Both of those are looking pretty good for 2022 and moving forward too,” he said.
“Companies are usually in negotiations with leases or building spaces or things like that, and sometimes not everybody that is involved is aware of it yet. They speak with the city first to see whether they would be able to do it or not.”
As new developments are approved, Carpentieri said city council will be informed through his regular report.
