Crank up the sparkle this holiday season

The Christmas season is an opportunity to make the community sparkle, and Kiwanis Club of the Battlefords and CJNB Radio are once again offering incentives to decorate the great outdoors with their Lights Before Christmas campaign.

The Christmas season is an opportunity to make the community sparkle, and Kiwanis Club of the Battlefords and CJNB Radio are once again offering incentives to decorate the great outdoors with their Lights Before Christmas campaign.

Residents are encouraged to decorate the outsides of homes, balconies, neighbourhoods and businesses, in a glittering display of holiday and community spirit.

"Christmas lights are one of the symbols of the holiday season and decorating has becoming a tradition for many of us in the Battlefords," says Kiwanis member and project co-ordinator Don Salie.

"It creates a warm and festive atmosphere that sets us apart from other communities," says Salie.

"Again this year, we are hopeful everyone gets into the holiday spirit by decorating their homes and businesses."

The grand prize for best residential entry is a $500 Christmas gift card from Innovation Credit Union. The winner also receives the Jim Kite Memorial Award, in honour of the Battleford resident long remembered for his special Christmas displays. Plaques or trophies will be awarded I up to six additional categories: Best Singular Theme, Most Unique Theme, Best Christmas Display, Best Mechanical Display, Best Block Display and Best Commercial Display.

Previous grand prize winners over the past five years will not be eligible for the grand prize this year.

All residential entries must be registered to qualify for judging. Those who have a special display or see one worthy of recognition, CJNB will accept registrations at 445-2477 (8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.) Dec. 12 and 13 only. Judging will take place Thursday, Dec. 15 with winners to be announced Friday, Dec. 16.
