The Battlefords Quarter Horse Club and The Children's Empty Stocking Fund once again bring the spirit of Christmas to the streets of Battleford.

Nov. 12, cowboys and cowgirls will saddle up once again at Fort Battleford and head out with Santa in tow, to raise money and collect gifts for less fortunate children at Christmas. All the funds and gifts collected go to the Empty Stocking Fund for dispersal at Christmas.

"We are so proud to play a part in making the holidays a little brighter for these children," says organizer Ray Cox.

A memorable parade in 2010 had many participants, some came from as far as six to seven hours away. A healthy sum of money was raised and organizers say they are only hoping for greater things to happen this year.

"That's where you come in," says Cox. "We are a community and family based club and organization and we are inviting everyone to come and be a part of this unique parade. There is a good chance you walk off with one of our grand prizes. Last year we gave away about $5,000 in donated prizes."

Cox says the parade grows, and every year new friendships, both locally and from far away, are forged.

"I guarantee you will not be disappointed. So bring your horse and bring a friend and help us make this one the largest and best parades yet."

Cox notes that as participants rode through Battleford last year, they were amazed at how many people were out to see and support the effort.

"It was fulfilling to see so many kids and parents. We greatly appreciate all the support we receive from our communities. There were so many happy faces. Happy faces and smiles are contagious you know, and this year, we want to infect everyone!"

Santa will be stopping in town to visit the children and pick up donated gifts. Bring your family and a camera for a great time and some unique photo opportunities.

The parade will start and end at Fort Battleford. Starting time will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12. For those interested in entering the parade, registration begins at 11 a.m. For complete details and more information contact Ray Cox at 306-937-4455 or Shirley Smith at 306-937-2733
