North Battleford city council has given its final approval to a resolution approving a 21-unit condominium for funding under the City's new Residential Down Payment Grant Program.

The program, in which the City provides a grant of up to $5,000 in down payment towards the purchase of an affordable housing unit, passed council two weeks ago despite fierce opposition from councillors Brad Pattinson and Trent Houk.

This time, it was up to council to consider a recommendation passed at the previous week's municipal services that a proposed 21-unit condominium to be constructed by Glencoe Developments Inc., and located at 2322 Killdeer Dr., be approved for funding in accordance with the City's Residential Down Payment Grant Program.

The vote went as expected with Pattinson and Houk casting the no votes while the other five councillors voted in favour of approval.

There was little debate associated with Monday's final vote, as councillors had staked out their positions on the home grants policy at length at previous meetings.

Pattinson also made clear Monday that his "no" vote to that evening's resolution stemmed from his opposition to the home grant policy, and was not because he didn't want to see more development.
